Children's ski Tests & Levels

To ensure your child is in the right class please watch the videos and descriptions below
If you are not sure, don’t worry, our instructors will assess their ability on the first day and ensure they are put in the right class for their ability and enjoyment.

Piou-Piou

  • This class is designed to get young children used to being on snow and helping them to enjoy themselves in this new environment.

ouRSON

  • This class begins to develop movement on skis over slightly more varied terrain but keeping the gradient low
  • We encourage the children to ski with parallel skis down a gentle slope and come to a stop using a snow-plough .
  • We may also explore the early stages of the snow-plough turn .

Flocon

  • This class focuses on linking snow-plough turns and some students may progress on to plough parallel turns where the skis are brought parallel in between turns .
  • The introduction of cones to make courses makes this more fun for the children.
  • Some basic traversing work will be introduced to ensure the child’s weight is distributed in the correct manner.
  • We will also test for balance using little jumps, moving from one ski to another and skiing through sections of small bumps on a gentle slope.

1ére Etoile (1st star)

  • On a moderately steep slope, series of elementary sideslip turns over a suitable marked out course. 
  • Direct traversing line following a curved trajectory. 
  • Step turns on a gentle slope (starting off at an angle).

2éme Etoile (2nd star)

  • In this class instructors will be looking for the children to execute around 10 parallel turns over a defined course and on a moderately steep slope
  • The children should be able to ski a direct line over hollows and small bumps
  • Basic skating on the flat is expected

3éme Etoile (3rd star)

  • Series of around ten basic turns imposed by 10 to 12 poles on a moderately steep slope. 
  • Basic single garland on a moderately steep slope. 
  • Children should be able to straight line a moderately steep slope and come to a controlled top at the end.

Etoile de Bronze (bronze star)

  • To attain the Bronze Star children must complete a non-timed course of 15 to 20 gates on a varied slope using parallel turns and only two changes of rhythm allowed.
  • Godille of base. 
  • Children should be able to ski a basic skier cross course, passing over bumps and small jumps.

Etoile d'or (gold star)

  • To attain the Gold Star children must complete a shortened version of a giant slalom course in 50% of the openers time
  • Children must also be able to execute a series of carved and high speed turns over vaired terrain and snow conditions.

  • Giant Slalom, 25/35 gates, elevation : 200 to 250 m
  • Or : 0% à 15%
  • Vermeil : 15,01% à 28%
  • Argent : 28,01% à 40%
  • Bronze : 40,01 à 50%
  • Flechette : 50,01 à 55%

  • Or : 0% à 15%
